Position Purpose:

To secure and steward restricted and unrestricted gifts from parent and family prospects, believed capable of making $25,000 to $1+ million gifts in support of Dartmouth College's institutional priorities, and to work with the Director and other staff to increase Dartmouth's visibility among parents and family members.

Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp:

Bachelors or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

* Five years' development experience in a complex college or university development operation, or the equivalent* Demonstrated experience soliciting and closing five-figure and six-figure gifts* Ability to travel approximately 30-40% of working days; some evening and weekend work required* Understanding of and comfort with the intricacies of significant business travel.* Strong organizational skills combined with individual initiative* Ability to work with and command the respect of faculty, senior officers, Trustees, campaign volunteers and other high-level volunteers* Excellent written and verbal communication skills* Strong interpersonal skills* Ability to work independently and as part of multiple teams* Strong marketing and negotiation skills* Strong analytical and planning skills* Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with appropriate discretion* Demonstrated integrity combined with self-motivation

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience working in a complex college, university or educational development organization* Demonstrated experience working with senior administrators, Trustees and top volunteers* Event planning and execution experience

Description:

Prospect Development: Develop and implements comprehensive cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for approximately 150 prospect families. Works both independently and in concert with senior officers, Trustees, other colleagues and volunteers to implement strategies including direct solicitation of gifts. Organizes, trains and supports volunteers to engage and solicit prospects capable of making leadership-level gifts. Qualifies identified prospects through individual visits, advises research department of potential new prospects and assumes specific responsibility for prospect activity. Reviews and analyzes the currently identified prospect pool to assess accuracy of research and amends and expands profiles as appropriate. Promotes maximum involvement with and giving to Dartmouth, including annual, capital and planned gift from identified portfolio of prospects. Works with colleagues in the Dartmouth College Fund, Leadership Giving, Gift Planning, Principal Giving and the three professional schools to develop strategies for parent and family prospects. Devises individualized involvement/engagement strategies for all prospects using a "top-down" approach to ensure that highest rated prospects receive the most attention. Articulates and implements strategies for communicating with donors and advocates the needs of the College to assigned prospects; schedules appointments and-in collaboration with a donor relations officer-oversees the preparation of necessary materials, including funding proposals, briefings for senior officers, campaign volunteers and Trustees and scheduled stewardship reports, for all assigned prospects utilizing campus resources. Identifies prospects to participate in specific events, committees or other programs that promote the cultivation process. Ensures stewardship is provided to donors on existing endowment and current-use funds. Responds quickly and effectively to strategic opportunities for increased prospect engagement.

Develops networks with campus colleagues to keep current on campus issues and events and with best practices and emerging trends in philanthropy. Attends appropriate on and off-campus college events, programs, and meetings including Family Weekend, Commencement, and other weekends with high traffic from parent and family prospects. Upholds and models the core values and operating principles of the Dartmouth Development Office.

Works in conjunction with the Director and others to establish performance goals in assigned development areas; monitors progress against goals and devises strategies to ensure success in meeting goals. Participates in long-range planning for Family Giving and Engagement as appropriate.
