Description:

The Department of Human Nutrition houses two undergraduate programs: the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) and Nutrition and Health Promotion. Additionally, we offer both a Dietetic Internship (DI) and an MS in Human Nutrition at the graduate level. Both the DPD and DI programs are ACEND accredited. The major focus of both our undergraduate and graduate curriculums are in clinical nutrition. We are the only university in the state of South Carolina that offers the DPD, DI, and a master's degree program.  We value diversity within our student population and among faculty, and we welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds that have been historically under-represented in the academic enterprise.

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Teach a variety of courses in human nutrition and dietetics at the undergraduate and graduate level. Preference for expertise in community nutrition, nutrition/food science, nutrition and chronic disease prevention, or clinical nutrition.
  • Excellence in teaching, a strong commitment to student learning and development, and the ability to teach a diverse student body with support strategies for underrepresented minority students.
  • Ability to design and teach online courses, particularly at the graduate level.
  • Ability to conduct research and participate in scholarly activities in area of specialization.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Participate in professional service activities for the department, college, university and professional organizations related to human nutrition or similar relevant area of expertise.

Employment Conditions: A nine-month, full-time, tenure-track appointment in a year round program. Supplemental summer teaching duties based on course enrollment as needed. ABDs may be considered for a non-tenure-track appointment at the rank of Instructor. Salary dependent upon qualifications.

Work Environment: In person, this position requires daily contact with students, faculty, and staff on campus. The successful candidate will be required to work with the outside community, other universities, and international schools/companies/partners as necessary.

Qualifications:
  • Earned doctorate in human nutrition or closely related field required for appointment at the assistant professor level
  • Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) credential is desirable
  • Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in human nutrition and dietetics and evidence of teaching effectiveness and commitment to student learning and development
  • Evidence of scholarly activity and potential research agenda
  • Demonstrated commitment to student learning and development, particularly with students from underserved populations
