The Assistant Coed Cheerleading Coach will assist the Director of Spirit Programs and Events and the Head Cheerleading Coach with the administration and coaching needs related to the Wake Forest spirit programs, with a primary focus on efforts related to the daily operation of Wake Forest Cheerleading programs. This is a monthly stipend position.Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Assists the Director of Spirit Programs and Events and Head Cheerleading Coach with preparation of cheerleaders/dance team to perform at all football and basketball games, to include:

    • Coordination, evaluation and selection of cheerleaders, dance squad members and mascots on an annual basis, including making determinations regarding recruiting, selection and scholarship offers.

    • Coach spirit program members in the proper techniques to ensure safety.

    • Assist with choreography and plan performances to enhance fan engagement at events.

    • Work in partnership with strength and conditioning staff to supervise strength and conditioning program for the spirit programs.

    • Collaborate with the Fan Experience team to design promotional items to recruit future spirit program prospects.

    • Recruit strong student athletes for spirit programs through outreach efforts and camp evaluations throughout the region and in house recruitment clinics.

    • Implement and execute game day activities and responsibilities.

    • Coordinate with the Spirit of the Old Gold and Black on band and cheer songs and routines to enhance fan experience at events.

  • Assists in game management services related to the public address system, message center, cheerleaders, and band.

  • Sport assignment coverage with Volleyball, Men and Woman's Basketball, Some Baseball and all home football games.

  • Promotes positive public relations for the Department through involvement in community, University, and student organizations.

  • Performs other related duties as requested by Director of Spirit Programs and Events and Associate Athletic Director, Fan Experience & Brand Development.

  • Assists with mascot duties, planning and execution of appearances throughout the year when needed.

  • Ensures all assigned tasks are in compliance with department, University, ACC, and NCAA rules and regulations.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • One-year coaching experience in cheerleading ( preferred collegiate level experience)

  • USA and CPR Certified


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to coach and instruct student athletes on cheer fundamentals, collegiate level skills, tumbling, game day presence, sportsmanship, leadership and competition preparations.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information

  • Highly organized and ability to balance multiple projects and deadlines

  • Strong initiative to solve problems

  • Extraordinary focus on customer service

  • Willing to work in a team atmosphere where expectations are set and managed while giving staff flexibility to do their assigned task as both a leader and/or a follower

  • Ability to work long hours including nights and weekends.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to successfully recruit and evaluate cheerleaders, dancers, and mascots.

  • Ability to supervise and train cheerleaders, dancers, and mascots.

  • 12 months of experience in leading collegiate level coed cheerleading for an organized college program.

  • Direct involvement with a collegiate or professional cheer program.

  • Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

Accountabilities:

This position will assist in the supervision of approximately 70 spirit group members.
