Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is seeking an ambitious individual with strong work behaviors to join the Americas NanoPort team as an Application Scientist based in Hillsboro, Oregon. This is an outstanding chance to create a significant impact in the field of the Electron Microscopy while being part of a world-class company.

How will you make an impact?

The Applications Scientist in the Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) applications team is responsible for providing technical expertise in the support of Thermo Fisher Scientific's Americas sales efforts at specific customer sites.

What will you do?

  • Supporting and training customers after the sale and installation of the microscope. Customer training is primarily scheduled on-site on the customer's instrument, but the candidate will support in-house training in the Hillsboro NanoPort as well.
  • Authoring and maintaining supporting training material.
  • Acting as a primary communication conduit to the factory by reporting engineering and production issues from the customer.
  • Solving and reporting software and hardware issues and customer concerns.
  • Provide continuous feedback to the product groups on system performance, features, and potential problems while collaborating with marketing/development groups on future product developments.
  • Perform high quality TEM product demonstrations, including the development of new techniques and applications for Thermo Fisher Scientific partners and customers, particularly those in the Semiconductor marketplace.
How Will You Get Here?
  • Requires a university degree in Materials Science, Chemistry and or Physics. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Knowledge and recent hands-on experience with TEM are required.
  • Knowledge of advanced technology diagnostics as well as problem solving techniques, operational optimization, and experience of analytical equipment; specifically, electron/ion microscopes.
  • 5 or more years of experience in a relevant position within the research environment with recent experience using TEM technology is preferred.
  • Excellent, interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
  • Works well with multi-functional and cross-cultural teams
  • Frequent travel, both domestic and international (up to 50%). Possession of a valid passport.
